Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
How do I schedule my imaging tests?
For routine non-emergent outpatient imaging, please call our scheduling department at 540-741-XRAY (9729). All locations, except ICW, handle routine x-rays on a walk-in basis with a physician’s order. You do not need to schedule an appointment for an x-ray procedure.
PET/CT studies are to be scheduled by contacting the PET center directly at 540-741-4PET (4738).
Emergent same day imaging or special needs cases can be scheduled directly through Medical Imaging of Fredericksburg by dialing their main number 540-741-XRAY (9729). A receptionist will connect you with an imaging supervisor. Radiologists are also available for protocol advice and prioritizing studies by contacting radiology reception at 540-741-1570.
How do I prepare for an exam?
Visit our exam preparation page for guidelines.
If there are any additional questions, contact the department where the exam is to be performed. For a list of locations and contact numbers, visit our contact page.
Are there are forms I can fill out in advance?
Yes. To facilitate your visit we are providing you an MRI form, a Screening Mammography form and a Bone Density form (DEXA) in .PDF format that you may print and complete prior to your exam. This will provide you with more time to thoroughly document any pertinent medical history and ensure a quicker registration process.
I am allergic to contrast. Are there any premedication guidelines you suggest?
Inquiring about contrast allergies in advance is crucial to both patient safety and convenience. Please discuss this with your referring physician. Our standard protocol for IV contrast allergy premedication is oral prednisone 50mg (13, 7, 1 hour prior to injection) and a single dose of benadryl 50mg (1 hour prior to scanning). You must have a ride home if receiving benadryl.
If there are any indications that you may be prone to allergic reactions, we prefer to you to be scheduled at Mary Washington Hospital’s radiology department. This allows the highest level of supervision and medical support for any allergic reaction.
Where are your imaging centers and what are the phone/fax numbers?
A listing of imaging centers with phone and fax numbers are on our contact page. There are links available on the locations page for driving directions.
With what insurance plans do you participate?
Am I required to pay a co-pay?
Medical Imaging of Fredericksburg requires co-payment at time of service. This helps us offer high quality imaging services at competitive prices.
If I have an order made out to another imaging facility, can I use it at Medical Imaging of Fredericksburg?
Yes, as long as there is a preauthorization with the order.
How important are old/outside exams?
Comparison with past studies is often vital to an interpretation. Expensive workup of a pulmonary nodule or spine fracture may be obviated by an old film present at an outside location. Please bring any outside exams (on film or CD-ROM) and reports with you to your imaging appointment. The radiologist will compare the exams in a timely manner and return the study directly to you.
If an outside exam becomes available after a report has been generated, an addendum can be made in the context of any new information.
How long will it take for my doctor to receive my results?
Your reports will be sent to your referring physician and available by your next appointment.
